IT critical to Nigeria’s economic survival – Experts

The Regional Sales Manager, Blue Coat Technology, Mr. Justin Lee, has described the Nigerian Information Technology market as one of the biggest in the world, saying that the sector is an important element in the development of the nation’s economy.

Lee, who spoke at the launch of a comprehensive lifecycle protection for all forms of advanced threats currently affecting organisations around the world in Lagos recently, said that the latest technology would finally address every risk posed by malwares and hackers.

According to Lee, the event which was organised in conjunction with Tarsus Technology Group, a value added distributor of the company’s products in Nigeria and other West African markets, is an avenue to introduce the latest solution to the region and also assure new and existing clients of their resolve to surpass expectations.

He said, “We are eager to enter into the West African market through Nigeria because we believe that Nigeria is a large market from where we can penetrate other West African markets. The purpose of this technology is to help organisations address the issue of security threats that have become a global issue and now threatens the growth of most economies.

“Blue Coat advanced threat protection solution integrates technologies and delivers a comprehensive, integrated and modern approach to advanced persistent threats, advanced targeted attacks, advanced malware, unknown malware and zero-day threats through its Advanced Threat Protection Lifecycle Defense.

“This defense is the first to integrate a business process view that aligns with how security teams operationalise new intelligence and technologies to fortify their infrastructure against future attacks. The Blue Coat Advanced Threat Protection Lifecycle Defense operates in three stages by detecting and protecting ongoing security operations; analysing and mitigating for incident containment; and investigates and remediates for incident resolution.”

The Regional Manager, English West Africa, Tarsus Technology Group, Mr. Femi Ibine, stated that as a leading partner with Blue Coat, they would continue to provide the best atmosphere and support services for clients wherever they might be.

“Apart from solution distribution, we also provide technical skills for our resellers and customers who are end users of the solution, and we provide project financing for customers and organisations that may need the solution but do not have the financial strength to deploy it. This is why we are value added distributor,” he said.

According to recent findings, over 100,000 new malware samples alone were being discovered every day, while unknown malware and zero-day threats continue to evade even the best traditional security defenses, thus threatening many businesses around the world. The latest technology, according to its makers, is designed to address all of these by integrating into existing security infrastructures used by organisations.
