Ban Ki-Moon to visit Nigeria today

The United Nations’ Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, is expected to visit Nigeria on Sunday (today).

A statement issued by the UN on Friday said Ki-Moon would meet with President Muhammadu Buhari and would subsequently engage in a few field activities.

The statement read, “The Secretary-General will travel to Abuja, Nigeria, over the weekend. During his visit, he will meet with President Buhari and other federal and state government officials. He will also meet with leaders from human rights, religious, civil society and business communities.

“The Secretary-General is expected to discuss development, climate change, human rights and countering violent extremism while he is in Nigeria. He will also mark the anniversary of the August 26, 2011 attack on UN House in Abuja.”

Ki-Moon made his first visit to Nigeria in May 2011 since he became the UN boss in 2007.

His visit to Nigeria then was to further propagate his “Every woman, every child” global health campaign, which he launched in 2010 during the Millennium Development Goals Summit at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States.
