Bayelsa rescheduled primary fails to hold


YENAGOA—THERE was confusion in Yenagoa, yesterday, as the rescheduled primaries by All Progressives Congress, APC, to pick a governorship candidate, for the December 5, governorship election did not hold.

As early as 8am, the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Yenagoa, the announced venue, had been occupied by Igbo residents in Bayelsa State, who were celebrating the annual Igbo National Day, while there was no sign of APC officials.

However, there was heavy security presence at the Complex mounted by a combined team of soldiers, mobile policemen and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.


An anti-bomb police vehicle was also stationed at the complex.

Some soldiers at the venue, who also expressed surprise over the development, told Vanguard that they came to provide security for the primaries, only to learn that the exercise might have been shifted to today.

Although no official statement was issued for the sudden development by the party in Yenagoa.

However, there were conflicting reports by some members of the state executives of the party, with some claiming that the election would take place yesterday night, while others said the election would be conducted today.

At the state party secretariat in Yenagoa, scores of delegates and some state party executives, were seen milling round while others were seen discussing in groups.

Meanwhile, the Timi Alaibe Campaign Organisation, has alleged of plans to use a fresh delegates lists for the rescheduled primaries.

Spokesperson of the organisation, Mr Patterson Ogon, who disclosed this in Yenagoa, yesterday, claimed the plot was been masterminded by some powerful forces in the APC to subvert the will of the people for the rescheduled Bayelsa primaries.
